Adding, Editing, and Removing Servers

Adding a database server is a prerequisite to using any other CAE Manager option.

To add a connection to a database server

1. On the Connection Manager window, click New Server:

2. Specify the display name of the server in the Server name field.
3. In the Database server area:
a. Select a driver from the drop-down list (i.e., Oracle 11g, Oracle 12c, Oracle 12.2, SQL Server 2008, or SQL Server 2012).
b. Specify the database server hostname. This is name of the computer on which the RDBMS is installed followed by :port_number if different than the default port number (i.e.,1521 for Oracle and 1433 for Microsoft SQL Server).
The hostname localhost is not supported. You must specify an explicit machine name or IP address.
Under Microsoft SQL Server, you use the default port number only if you use the default instance.
c. Specify the database name. This is the name you specified when creating the database. The default value is CAE.
Under Oracle, this is the database service name or database System Identifier (SID) according to your Oracle identification rule settings.
Under Microsoft SQL Server, if you do not use the default instance, add instancename/ before the database name. If you use the default instance, you must keep the default port number (i.e., 1433).
4. In the Database administrator account area:
a. Optional only for SQL Server. If the database instance has been configured in the Windows Authentication mode, select the Use Windows system credential check box. All the other fields in the Database administrator account area are disabled with this option.
b. Specify the account name. By default, this is system for Oracle and sa for Microsoft SQL Server.
If you do not want to use these default database administrator accounts, contact ASG Customer Support for information about the required privileges that must be granted.
c. Optional. Select the Save password check box, specify the account password, and confirm the password. This is administrative password you specified when creating the database. Under Oracle, there is a default value which is MANAGER.
The database administrator password is saved locally after encryption, which might be prohibited by your security policy.
5. Optional. Click Test.

This message displays if the connection to the database server is established:

6. Click Save.

To edit a connection to a database server

1. On the Connection Manager window, expand, if necessary, the Server List tree in the left frame and select a database server connection, then click Edit:

2. Edit the connection definition as appropriate.
3. Optional. Select the Save password check box and specify the administrator’s account name and password, or clear the Save password check box.
The database administrator password is saved locally after encryption, which might be prohibited by your security policy.
