Ensuring Data Integrity

RISAM works with an integrated recovery logging. This recovery logging is always active; it ensures the physical consistency of the Rochade databases after a system crash. When the server is restarted after a crash, it automatically carries out a recovery. Additional files are not required for this.

Via the LOG_NAME setting, you can activate an additional restore logging. Restore logging includes logging of all write actions in a LOG file while accessing the databases attached to the Rochade Server. The objective of restore logging is to prevent data loss also in case of physical hard disk errors. On the basis of a previous database backup, you can repeat all write actions since that backup with the help of the LOG file.

The advantage of this is that it allows you to roll back the database in a targeted fashion by repeating only a selected part of the write operations recorded in the LOG files. For more information on database restoration, see Restore Logging and Restoring a Database.
