File Operations Automation
File Operations Automation helps you to quickly automate all your file or folder related tasks on a computer.
Using the available activities you can read and write to a file, copy or move it to a different location in your computer, delete the specified file, and rename the file. You can also copy or move file to a new folder in your machine. The new folder is automatically created.
File Operations Automation Actions
You can use the following File Operations Automation activities when designing a bot:
The Copy or Move action lets you to copy or move a file to a specific folder on your computer. When you are moving a file to an existing folder, you can select either to overwrite any matching file or not to.
The file you have specified to copy or move may contain one or more files or directories.
Properties
- Name: Enter the display name of the action.
- File Path: Enter the path of the file with the extension you want to copy or move.
- Copy/Move: Select the option to copy or move the file.
- Directory to move: Enter the path of the destination folder you want to move to.
- Create folder if not exist: When you select this option, a new folder is created if the specified destination folder is not available.
- Delete file if already exists: When you select this option, all the matching files in the destination folder are overwritten with the new files. If you do not select this option, no files are overwritten, they exist in the destination folder.
You can use this action to delete a file on our computer. To delete multiple files, you have to add multiple Delete File action to your workflow.
Properties
- Name: Enter the display name of the action.
- File Path: Enter the full path of the file with the extension you want to delete.
Helps you to extract data from a file and then write the same data to a file. The extracted data is stored in a variable from which the data is written to another file.
This activity can be used if you want to copy data from one file and insert it in another file instead of using Read File and Write File activities.
Properties
- Name: Enter the display name of the action.
- Enter read from filepath: Specify the name (including extension) and path of the file from which to extract the data.
- Enter write to filepath: Specify the name (including extension) and path of the file to which the data is written.
- Action: The following properties are related to files to which data is written. Select one of the following:
- Append: Select this action if you want to add text to a file. The next text is added to any existing text available in the file.
- Override: Select this action if you want to remove the existing text and write new text to the file.
Use this action to read the data of a specified file in a computer. After you read the data using other action you can either add new or remove the existing data in the file. Data can be extracted from the file and transformed into a user-defined variable.
Properties
- Name: Enter the display name of the action.
- File Path: Enter the name (including extension) and path of the file, you want to read or extract the data.
- Enter the variable name to store the read text: Enter the variable in which you want to store the extracted data.
The Rename action renames a specified file. This action is mainly used to control the final file name created by a process flow.
Properties
- Name: Enter the display name of the action.
- Enter File Path: Enter the name (including extension) and path of the file you want to rename.
- Enter New File Path: Enter the new name to replace the original name.
Lets you define the time to wait before the bot reads a specified file. You can use this action to wait for the file to arrive or allow another File Operations task to complete before reading the file.
Properties
- Name: Enter the display name of the action.
- Enter File Name: Enter the name (including extension) and path of the file you want to read.
- Enter Seconds to wait: Enter the amount of time to wait before the file is read. You must specify the time in milliseconds.
The Write File action lets you to write text or data to a file on a computer. You can either add to the existing data or override the data in the file.
Properties
- Name: Enter the display name of the action.
- File Path: Enter the path and extension of the file you want to write.
- Enter text to be written: Enter the text to write to a file. You can you enter a variable name in this field.
- Action: Select one of the following activities:
- Append: Select this action if you want to add text to a file. The next text is added to any existing text available in the file.
- Override: Select this action if you want to remove the existing text and write new text to the file.
