Adding a New Object

To add an object

  1. Click the Add button (see Left Frame Toolbars). The Select a type dialog displays:

Right-click an object type in the Type Browser and select Add on the shortcut menu. This takes you directly to step 3.

  1. Find the appropriate object type in the scrollable list. You can use the entry field to filter the list of object types as in the Type Browser (see Using the Type Browser for more information).
  2. Click the object type. The window for adding objects opens on the Attributes tab:

Below the Save and Cancel buttons, a table provides information about the object you are creating. The Valid? field changes from No to Yes when you enter appropriate information on the Attributes and References tabs.

  1. To specify a single-value attribute, click the corresponding entry field.
  2. Optional. There is an ellipsis button [...] next to each field that can contain multiple attribute values. If you want to enter multiple values for an attribute, perform these steps:
    1. Click the ellipsis button [...]. This dialog opens:
    2. Enter a value in the Description field, and click Add.
    3. Repeat step b as many times as necessary.
    4. Optional. To remove a value, select it in the list and click Remove.
    5. Optional. If Up and Down arrows are displayed, you can use them to reorder selected values in the list.
    6. Click Apply. The dialog closes.
  1. Click the References tab to open it:
  1. Click the ellipsis button [...] next to a field to open this dialog:

The dialog enables you to perform these tasks:

  • Link the object that you are creating to one or more existing objects.
  • Add a new object that you will subsequently link from the object you are adding.

This is the purpose of the Add new button, which takes you back to step 2 to enable you to add another object.

  1. Click either Fetch all or Fetch on Types to display objects in the right frame.
    • Fetch all displays all the repository objects that can be linked from the current object.
    • Fetch on Types opens a type selection dialog on which you can use Shift+click or Ctrl+click to select multiple types.

    When you click OK, a list of the corresponding linkable objects displays in the right frame.

  2. Select an object and click [<] to move it to the left frame. If applicable, you can use Shift+click or Ctrl+click to select multiple objects.
  3. Optional. If you want to edit a reference, perform these steps:
    1. Right-click the object in the left frame.
    2. Select EditEdit on the shortcut menu. This takes you to step 3.
    3. Follow the procedure, starting from step 3.
  1. Optional. If you want to remove a reference, select the object in the left frame and click Remove.
  2. Optional. If Up and Down arrows are displayed, you can use them to reorder selected linked objects in the list.
Only ordered links can be reordered.
  1. Click Apply. The dialog closes.
  2. Click Save.
