Item Search Queries

Metability offers a search facility that enables you to perform ad-hoc item searches and define complex search queries with an extended set of search criteria (for example, item name, item content, and various item properties).

Accessing the search facility of Metability

  • Select QuerySearch for Items from the main menu bar to open the Search view, where you can start the search.

The Search for Items option is available when the focus is anywhere in the navigation tree, the Editor frame, or the Output frame. For information on searching a list of items returned by a query, see Search for Items in List.

The Search View

You can specify search conditions on the left side of the view (that is, the conditions area). On the right side, the search results will be displayed in a table (that is, the result table). For each open subject area, only one Search view is opened. In each case, the name of the subject area displays in the page tab.

If the Editor frame contains a view with the result of a Search for Items in List option, the Search for Items option will not open a new view, but rather clear the Restrict to items of list check box on the List tab of this view and bring its Name tab to the foreground:

The following search operation will then consider all items in the configuration.
