Working with Work in Progress Environment

The Work in Progress environment is based on long running transactions containing pending changes to the items in the Enterprise Data Intelligence database. The content can be modified over a long period of time in this environment and it is visible to the users only after committing it in to the Production environment.

You can also compare the base subject area (default name: METAAPPS PRODUCTION) either against the Work in Progress content or against the metadata in Production. For information on comparing items in Work in Progress environment, see Compare Versions in Work In Progress Environment. For information on comparing snapshots, see Comparing Snapshots.

Enterprise Data Intelligence provides a workflow to handle the Work in Progress content. It allows the data import automation through EPL tool, post processing using Stitching, and impact analysis through Lineage Comparison tool, and creating backups using snapshots. Furthermore, this approval workflow implements a configurable multiple steps approval process for the ingested content.

For administration and configuration purposes, the Version Management feature provides a Work in Progress context (WIP Transaction Context). This is the entry point to assign and configure the workflow and its several steps and to administer users and roles. This environment does not contain the Work in Progress content. Also, the actual workflow execution can be triggered in this context (Open WIP Context > Start ingestion workflow).

Browsing Work in Progress Content

  • Navigate to Browse Work in Progress Mode as described in Switching to the Work in Progress Environment.
  • In Work in Progress environment, you only have read-only access to all the data that are available in Enterprise Data Intelligence Browser. You can only compare the items that are available in the Work in Progress environment with the items that are available in Production. For steps on comparing versions, see Compare Versions in Work In Progress Environment.

The issue management facility, metaGlossary-, and metaRDM-specific functions are not available in the Work in Progress environment.
